People ask me all the time how manners and etiquette are relevant in today's 2.0 way of living. My simple answer is that manners are the language of kindness and compassion, something we need more of in our mashed-up world. If you're truly kind, then it's simple, with just a few guidelines, to be mannerly. Of course, these "guidelines” are what we know as "etiquette” or in diplomatic or official settings, "protocol”.
Today's social and business milieus have been merged to the point that they are no longer separated by rigid standards of behavior. It's easy to feel at a loss at how to act, what to wear, or what gifts to give. I'm committed to empowering each of us to use principled manners, empathy, compassion, tolerance, and kindness to advance our personal effectiveness. I call it "performance based manners” and it helps people and businesses stand out from the crowd.
